As has been the norm for Butch Jones and his staff, the Bearcats added another unlikely player to their roster on Wednesday when redshirt junior, Brandon Carswell, officially transferred from the University of Southern California to the University of Cincinnati.
The newest Bearcat was a consensus 4 star athlete as a senior at Milpitas High School (CA) and had offers from USC, California, Arizona State, Boise State, Fresno State, Oregon and others. He ultimately chose the Trojans over California in a very heated recruiting battle.
After playing wide receiver as a high school junior making 32 catches for 711 yards, the talented athlete returned to quarterback as a senior and helped lead his team to its first even Central Coast Section title as he accounted for over 3,000 yards of total offense.
After signing with USC, the 6' 1"/185 pounder redshirted as a true freshman. The following season he played in eleven games making one reception for 7 yards while returning 5 punts for 31 yards. Carswell became known for his blocking ability and last season was used primarily on running downs but managed to make 5 catches for 21 yards in nine appearances, starting in three contests.
Because of NCAA sanctions against the USC football program, Carswell is permitted to transfer to another FBS program without sitting out the 2010 season. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
